Still going up the hill to Los Guajes.  This was one of the first structures being built that I saw.

Similar to the last picture but different in that you can see the white cross just above the ridge.  Perhaps this is what encouraged me to stop.

I was driving east from Guadalajara with the intent of ending up in La Piedad, the largest town in that part of Michoacan state.  I had never been there but thought it would be a good place to spend the night before continuing on my journey the next day.  Anyway, when I was about 15 miles away from my destination, I saw this secondary road that led to a small village on a hill in the distance.  I don't know what inspired me to choose this particular village to stop at but there was just something about it that lured me in.  So, I made a left turn and entered the road in the picture above.  After a few kilometers, I eventually arrived in Los Guajes which will be the subject of several upcoming posts.

Los Guajes

During my time in Mexico, I visited a small town/village called Los Guajes (pop. 1,200).  This town is located in the NW corner of Michoacan state and about 15 miles away from the city of La Piedad.  I'm going to start posting some pictures from this visit even though I'll be doing so out of order from the other areas I've been.  I just loved the place so much that I can't wait to start showing it off!

A picture of the exterior of Sanborn's in Mexico City.  Quite the architectural display for a common cafeteria, isn't it?

New Year's Resolutions and Other Things

Once again, it is that time of year to put forth some New Year's resolutions.  First and foremost, I wish to post more!  I've had this blog for about 10 years now but am sometimes lazy in maintaining it.  Next, I want to improve my physical health through working out more often.  I can't just take it for granted anymore especially as I get older.  Finally, I want to keep traveling especially to Latin America which I had completely ignored until about two years ago.  I wish I'd discovered that area of the world sooner but, as they say, better late than never.  I'll think of other resolutions as the days go by . . . I just realized that, of my adult life, I have lived outside the US for approximately 17 years.  That number is due to increase in the coming years after I retire (in about four years) and move far, far away.  I truly look forward to those days. Happy New Year to all!

A look inside Sanborn's Cafeteria in Mexico City.  I had some great food while surrounded by impressive interior design.

The inside of a Sanborn's cafeteria in Mexico City.  It seemed to be just as much art museum as anything else.
