Similar to the last three . . .

We have a typical balcony on the main street in T'bilisi. The next picture is an interesting looking high school. The third is a close-up of the 'Mother Georgia' statue.

Some More Georgian Pictures

Three more pictures showing typical architecture on the main street downtown and the 'Mother Georgia' statue in the distance.

Busy Sunday in Georgia!!

Well, I saw three monasteries today outside of T'bilisi. I have pictures of all of these and will post them soon. I'm exhausted now because, in the afternoon, I visited a flea market in the capital and viewed some art for sale on the street. I didn't buy any but my friend bought at least five pieces. I'll try to post some more pictures tomorrow.

More from T'bilisi

Here are a few more pictures taken yesterday. The first one is of a church near the hotel. The next is a street we walk down when heading to the city center. The final one is of an informal downtown market. We're going on a trip outside the city with a driver later this morning. Be sure to click on the pictures to enlarge them.

First Complaint!

Okay, this is ridiculous! The high temperature yesterday was only 75 degrees F and I even had to wear a sweatshirt and jacket when I went out last night! This, after leaving 100 plus degrees in San Antonio, Texas. I don't know how long I can endure this cold weather :))

Georgia (1)

To all, Okay, this one will be a short one due to my continuing battle with jetlag! We (Michele and I) began our trip on Tuesday afternoon and arrived in Georgia at 3am local time. It was good having a traveling companion especially during the nine-hour layover in Munich. Had I not, I think I would have gone crazy from boredom! The trip was without incident and arrival was relatively hassle free. Our contacts picked us up at the airport and deposited us at the hotel within the hour. Speaking of the hotel, it's so convenient for us. The service is much better than what I had expected for an ex-Soviet state and that's probably because the owner is Georgian-American. What few problems we've had have been quickly resolved with a humble apology. We've also met some interesting guests here. Apparently, this hotel is the base for several NGOs and journalists. One British gentleman we met works for UNICEF. Another man from northern Italy is visiting Hazelnut plantations for his

Arrival!

I arrived in Georgia yesterday morning after a long trip! I will post more tomorrow on the details of living here along with some pictures.

Georgia

Not too much longer now, I'll be departing for Georgia next Tuesday at 5pm. I'm glad I had a week of leave leading up to the departure. It allowed me to get the house ready and pack without rushing around too much. I feel like I could go today if I had to. Will report again as the day nears.

Countdown to Departure!

As things stand now, I'll be departing the US on 25 August at roughly 5pm. I'm scheduled to arrive in the Republic of Georgia early on Thursday morning Georgian time. I would get there sooner but I have a nine-hour layover in Munich. Things could be worse, I guess. At least it's Germany and I do have a travel companion. Hope you like the new look of the blog. I was getting tired of the bright green.

Air Force Museum

Here are a few pictures of aircraft from the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. I went there with my family during my vacation a week ago. See if you can guess the name of the aircraft!

Returning to San Antonio

I've had a very restful vacation here visiting family. The only major activity was visiting the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. That was very interesting not only because of the exhibits we saw, but also because it's relevant to my job. Anyway, I'm flying back to San Antonio today at 1430. I'm looking forward to getting back and beginning preparations for my departure to the Republic of Georgia on 25 August!

At the Airport!

I'm here awaiting my flight. I got here a little too early but that's better than too late. I'll fly through DC to get to my family's home in Kentucky. I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling this month with the finale in the Republic of Georgia. I really like the San Antonio airport. It's an international airport but the feeling is of a smaller one. It's not crowded and the staff are so polite even the TSA people at security. Quite a contrast to what I know I'll be facing in DC!

Leave, finally!

I'm on vacation next week and will fly to Kentucky tomorrow to see family. After next week, I'll begin officially outprocessing for my trip to Georgia. The following week, I may head down to Veracruz at the urging of a friend. I'm making up for lost time not traveling in almost a year.
